Lightpath

All-fiber dedicated internet from 20 Mbps to 100 Gbps, plus Ethernet, wavelengths and dark fiber, on more than 12,600 route miles across 11 metro markets anchored in New York. Often the sharpest dedicated fiber quote we see in the Northeast when it is lit in the building.

The short answer

Lightpath is a fiber-only carrier that started as Cablevision's enterprise unit and is now jointly owned by Optimum Communications (50.01%) and Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners. It sells symmetrical dedicated internet from 20 Mbps to 100 Gbps, Ethernet, wavelengths up to 800 Gbps and dark fiber, with its deepest network in the New York metro, Long Island, New Jersey and Southern Connecticut. Its published dedicated internet SLA is 99.9% network availability, lower on paper than the 100% that Verizon publishes, so we compare the full SLA, not just the price. Lightpath does not publish pricing; we quote it by address.

Carrier overview

What Lightpath offers

Lightpath Dedicated Fiber Internet Access delivers symmetrical bandwidth from 20 Mbps to 100 Gbps on fiber Lightpath owns, with IPv4 and IPv6, static or BGP routing, and burstable options. Its product sheet states 99.9% network availability. Customers are notified within 15 minutes of a detected incident, and the network is monitored 24/7.

Beyond internet, Lightpath sells Ethernet (E-Line, V-Line and E-LAN, 20 Mbps to 100 Gbps), point-to-point and low-latency wavelengths up to 800 Gbps, dark fiber (including pre-built Rapidpath routes between data centers), private networks, voice, LP FlexNet managed SD-WAN, DDoS Shield (powered by Radware), managed security and managed WiFi. Lightpath cites more than 12,600 route miles, more than 18,300 service locations and 194+ on-net data centers and landing stations.

Where they are strongest

New York City, Long Island, New Jersey and Southern Connecticut are the core. That network was built over 30 years, first under Cablevision, and it reaches a lot of office buildings, hospitals, schools and data centers that national carriers serve only off-net. Lightpath now lists 11 metro markets, adding Boston, Eastern Pennsylvania, Ashburn, Atlanta, Miami, Columbus and Phoenix, plus long-haul routes.

Where it is lit, Lightpath is frequently the best-priced dedicated fiber quote we see in the Northeast. It is also one of the better carriers for physical diversity conversations, because it will show the route rather than describe it.

How we quote them

We quote Lightpath on every address in its metros, and check:

  • On-net or build. Lightpath's own deployment guidance says a connection on existing fiber turns up faster than one that needs construction, which varies with route, permits and right-of-way.

  • The SLA you are comparing. Lightpath's dedicated internet SLA is published at 99.9%. If you are comparing it with a carrier that publishes 100%, we put the availability, repair and credit terms side by side.

  • Route diversity. When Lightpath is the second carrier, we ask for the route and building entrance so it does not share a path with the primary.

  • Which Lightpath product. Dedicated internet, Ethernet and wavelengths are quoted separately; data center and AI workloads often fit a wave or dark fiber better than DIA.

Alternatives

When another carrier fits better

  • You want a 100% availability SLA on paper. Verizon Business publishes 100% availability and a 4-hour time-to-repair standard on Internet Dedicated. Spectrum Business publishes 100% uptime on Dedicated Fiber Internet. See Lightpath vs Verizon Business for dedicated internet in New York.

  • Sites outside Lightpath's 11 metros. National carriers such as Verizon Business, AT&T Business and Lumen put every site on one contract.

  • A small branch that does not need a dedicated circuit. Optimum Business Secure Fiber Internet is month to month and much cheaper. It is a different product, compared in Optimum Business Secure Fiber vs Lightpath.

  • Long-haul or national wavelengths. Zayo and Lumen have far larger long-haul networks.

  • Lightpath has to build and you have a date. Another carrier already lit in the building usually wins on interval.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Lightpath?

Optimum Communications (formerly Altice USA) holds 50.01% and control, and Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners bought the other 49.99% in December 2020. In 2026 Optimum moved its Lightpath stake into an unrestricted subsidiary as part of a debt restructuring. Lightpath operates under its own brand and contracts.

Is Lightpath the same as Optimum Business?

No. Both trace back to Cablevision, and Optimum Communications still owns a controlling stake in Lightpath, but they are sold separately with different products and contracts. Optimum Business sells business broadband and its own enterprise services; Lightpath sells dedicated fiber, Ethernet, waves and dark fiber.

What speeds does Lightpath dedicated internet offer?

Symmetrical speeds from 20 Mbps to 100 Gbps, with higher bandwidths available in some areas. Burstable billing is available for short peaks. Wavelengths run up to 800 Gbps.

What is Lightpath's SLA?

Lightpath's dedicated internet product sheet states 99.9% network availability. It also commits to notify customers within 15 minutes of a detected incident. The detailed credit schedule sits in the service agreement, so we request it with the quote.

Where does Lightpath have fiber?

The deepest network is in New York City, Long Island, New Jersey and Southern Connecticut. Lightpath also lists Boston, Eastern Pennsylvania, Ashburn, Atlanta, Miami, Columbus and Phoenix, plus long-haul routes. Coverage is building by building, so the address decides.

How much does Lightpath dedicated internet cost?

Lightpath does not publish pricing. Where it is already in the building, it is often the most competitive dedicated fiber quote we see in the Northeast; where it has to build, the price and interval depend on the construction. Send us the address and we will quote it next to everyone else who is lit.

Is Lightpath good for data center connectivity?

It is one of its strengths. Lightpath lists 194+ on-net data centers and landing stations, sells wavelengths up to 800 Gbps, and offers pre-built Rapidpath dark fiber routes that it says can turn up in as few as 15 business days on qualifying routes.
