VinaKom

A Chicago-area carrier and managed service provider with 1,500+ miles of owned Illinois fiber, Layer 2 service from 10 Mbps to 8 Gbps, and 24x7 managed networking. We quote it for Illinois sites, and for Midwest-anchored multi-site networks where a managed provider makes sense.

The short answer

VinaKom is a Schaumburg and Chicago based carrier, in business since 1991, that owns 1,500+ miles of fiber in Illinois and sells dedicated internet, Layer 2 fiber from 10 Mbps to 8 Gbps, MPLS and SD-WAN, cloud connectivity and colocation. What sets it apart is the managed layer: three managed service tiers with 24x7 monitoring and a converged voice and data product it calls DyIA. VinaKom does not publish SLA percentages or pricing, so the written SLA and the address decide whether it competes. For an Illinois site with no in-house network team, it is worth a quote; for many sites outside the Midwest, a national carrier fits better.

Carrier overview

What VinaKom offers

VinaKom's network service runs over fiber it built and owns in Illinois: dedicated internet access with symmetrical bandwidth, and managed Layer 2 fiber and point-to-point circuits from 10 Mbps to 8 Gbps. In Chicago it also sells WiFiber Cloud from 10 Mbps to 2 Gbps, plus Ethernet over copper for sites without fiber.

On top of the network, VinaKom sells:

  • Managed services in three tiers. Standard covers 24x7 remote monitoring and support. Advanced adds MPLS connectivity, hosting, email, managed firewalls and VPN. Premium adds a proactive help desk, online backup, disaster recovery and managed web security. Next-business-day router replacement is listed as a customer benefit.

  • MPLS and SD-WAN. Managed Dynamic MPLS with four QoS levels and multicast routing, and SD-WAN with policy-based routing and sub-second failover between transports.

  • DyIA (Dynamic Integrated Access). A proprietary product that carries voice and data on one circuit, reserving bandwidth for each call while it is up and releasing it to data when the call ends.

  • Cloud connectivity to Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Salesforce, SAP and IBM.

  • Carrier-neutral data centers in Chicago (the Loop), Schaumburg, New York and Dallas, with 2 MW of AC power, N+1 redundancy and biometric access.

VinaKom says its engineers are Cisco-certified, and it assigns a named engineer to each account.

Where they are strongest

Illinois addresses on its own fiber. VinaKom describes dense Chicago metro routes and regional Illinois coverage on fiber it owns, with no leased capacity on those routes. Where its fiber reaches the building, there is no third-party carrier in the path.

Businesses without a network team. Most carriers sell a circuit and a handoff. VinaKom will run the router, firewall, MPLS or SD-WAN and monitoring on a managed tier, which suits a mid-size company that does not want to hire for it.

Midwest-anchored multi-site networks. For a company headquartered in the Chicago area with branches elsewhere, VinaKom can run the private network as one managed design, with its Chicago and Schaumburg data centers as the hub.

How we quote them

For Illinois and Chicago-area addresses, we quote VinaKom against the national carriers already in the building. For managed networks anchored in the Midwest, we quote it against other managed and SD-WAN providers.

Before a VinaKom quote goes next to anyone else's, we confirm:

  • Owned fiber or off-net. VinaKom's "no middleman" pricing applies where its own fiber reaches the site. Outside its routes, ask who the underlying carrier is.

  • The written SLA. VinaKom calls its service SLA-backed but does not publish availability percentages, repair times or credits. We ask for the SLA document and compare it line for line with the other quotes.

  • Circuit versus managed service. A managed-tier quote bundles equipment and support. We separate the circuit price so you compare like with like.

Alternatives

When another carrier fits better

  • Sites spread across many states. AT&T Business, Lumen and Verizon Business cover far more of the country directly. Granite aggregates many small sites on one bill.

  • You need a published SLA with a credit schedule. AT&T publishes a 100% availability SLA on dedicated internet, and Comcast Business publishes its full Dedicated Internet credit schedule. If written credits matter to your procurement team, start there.

  • You only need a circuit, not management. If you already run your own network, a carrier in the building selling plain dedicated internet may cost less. In Chicago, Comcast Business, AT&T Business and Zayo are common comparisons. We go deeper in Chicago dedicated internet: VinaKom vs the national carriers.

  • A diverse backup path. If VinaKom is the primary, a cable carrier on different infrastructure is often the lower-cost second circuit. See Your backup circuit is probably on the same fiber path.

Frequently asked questions

Where does VinaKom have fiber?

VinaKom says it owns 1,500+ miles of fiber in Illinois, with dense routes in Chicago and regional coverage across the state. It sells beyond Illinois for multi-site customers, but outside its own routes the last mile comes from another carrier. Send us the address and we will check.

What speeds does VinaKom offer?

VinaKom's managed Layer 2 fiber runs from 10 Mbps to 8 Gbps, symmetrical. In Chicago it also sells WiFiber Cloud from 10 Mbps to 2 Gbps. Ethernet over copper is available for sites without fiber.

What is VinaKom DyIA?

DyIA (Dynamic Integrated Access) is VinaKom's own product for carrying phone calls and internet on one circuit. Bandwidth is reserved for each call while it is active and given back to data when the call ends, with QoS keeping voice ahead of large transfers. It is an alternative to separate voice lines or SIP trunks over a standard internet circuit.

Does VinaKom offer managed network services?

Yes. VinaKom sells three managed tiers (Standard, Advanced and Premium) with 24x7 monitoring, ranging from remote monitoring and support up to managed firewalls, MPLS, help desk, backup and disaster recovery. That is the main reason to choose it over a carrier that only sells circuits.

What SLA does VinaKom offer?

VinaKom describes its service as SLA-backed but does not publish uptime percentages, repair times or credits. Ask for the SLA document with the quote, and compare its availability figure, credit schedule and claim process with the other carriers you are considering.

Is VinaKom cheaper than AT&T or Comcast in Chicago?

It depends on the building. VinaKom says it prices directly as the network owner, with no wholesale markup, where its fiber reaches the site. AT&T and Comcast are on-net in many Chicago buildings too. We put them on the same term and compare the total, separating circuit cost from any managed services.

How long has VinaKom been in business?

VinaKom has operated since 1991. Its offices and data centers are in Schaumburg and in the Chicago Loop, with additional data center locations in New York and Dallas.
