Cox Business

Dedicated internet up to 400 Gbps, business fiber and cable broadband across Cox's former 18-state footprint, now part of Spectrum after Charter closed its Cox transaction in August 2026. We quote it where it is on-net and tell you what the brand change means for your contract.

The short answer

Cox Business sells three different internet products: shared cable broadband up to 2 Gbps download, Cox Business Fiber Internet at symmetrical speeds up to 2 Gbps, and Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) at symmetrical speeds up to 400 Gbps. Only DIA is a reserved, unshared circuit, and Cox does not publish its SLA percentages or credits, so we get them in writing before you sign. On a 36-month term, Cox DIA typically runs $375 to $450 a month at 100 Mbps and $800 to $1,000 at 1 Gbps, with about twelve weeks to install. Charter completed its transaction with Cox on August 20, 2026, and Cox's own site now reads "Cox is now Spectrum," so new and renewing contracts should be checked for which entity and which terms you are signing.

Carrier overview

What Cox Business offers

Cox Business Dedicated Internet Access is symmetrical service up to 400 Gbps over a fiber network Cox says it owns and operates, with fixed or burstable billing, BGP routing options and security add-ons. Cox notes that a site survey and custom build may be required, and that DIA pricing depends on location and speed. (The same page's meta description still says "up to 100 Gbps," so expect older collateral to quote the lower ceiling.)

Below DIA sit two broadband products. Cox Business Fiber Internet offers symmetrical speeds up to 2 Gbps with uptime SLAs, aimed at teams of 10 or more. Cox Business Internet is asymmetrical cable broadband up to 2 Gbps, advertised from $65 a month for 300 Mbps to $190 a month for 2 Gbps (business.com, July 2026), with unlimited data and Net Assurance LTE backup included on the 1 Gbps and 2 Gbps plans.

Cox's commercial portfolio also includes Segra, the mid-Atlantic enterprise and carrier fiber operator Cox bought in 2021, and RapidScale for managed cloud. Charter's announcement says Spectrum Business is being combined with Cox Business, including Segra and RapidScale.

Where they are strongest

Inside its footprint, Cox reaches a lot of commercial addresses that fiber-only carriers have not built to. Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Virginia and Georgia are among its core states. Where Cox fiber is already in the building, DIA pricing usually sits a little below the market at 100 Mbps and at the average at 1 Gbps. Segra adds real enterprise fiber depth in Virginia and the mid-Atlantic.

Outside those markets Cox does not compete on its own network. The merger with Charter changes the map over time, but today we still quote each address on the plant that actually serves it.

How we quote them

We quote Cox where it is on-net or close to it, and we confirm four things before its number goes next to anyone else's:

  • Which of the three products. "Cox fiber" can mean Business Fiber Internet (up to 2 Gbps, shared) or DIA (reserved, scalable). They are priced and supported differently.

  • The SLA in writing. Cox's product pages promise "enterprise-grade SLAs" without publishing availability, repair time or credits. We ask for the schedule that attaches to your order.

  • Which entity signs. With Cox Business now folding into Spectrum Business, we confirm the contracting entity, the governing terms and whether any Cox-era pricing carries over at renewal.

  • Diversity. Cox and Spectrum are now one company. If your redundancy plan pairs them, we check whether they still give you separate paths.

If you need more than 2 Gbps, BGP with your own IP space, or a written repair commitment, you are a DIA customer. A small office that mostly needs upload headroom may be well served by Business Fiber Internet. The merger angle is covered in Cox Business is becoming Spectrum: what to check before you renew.

Alternatives

When another carrier fits better

  • You need a published SLA number. Spectrum Business publishes a 100% uptime SLA on Dedicated Fiber Internet, and Verizon Business publishes 100% availability with a 4-hour repair standard. Cox does not publish figures.

  • You want true carrier diversity in a Cox market. Cox and Spectrum are now the same company. Pair Cox with a telco or fiber carrier such as AT&T Business, Lumen or Zayo instead. See Your backup circuit is probably on the same fiber path.

  • Sites outside the Cox footprint. National carriers such as AT&T Business, Lumen and Verizon Business cover more of the map on one contract.

  • Neither Cox nor Segra is lit in the building. A regional fiber carrier that is already on-net, such as Uniti Fiber or FiberLight where they serve the address, usually beats a Cox build on interval.

  • A cable product would do. If the site does not need a dedicated circuit, Comcast Business and Spectrum broadband are the comparison in their own markets.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cox Business now Spectrum?

Charter completed its transaction with Cox Communications on August 20, 2026, and Cox's business pages now carry the line "Cox is now Spectrum." Charter says Spectrum Business is being combined with Cox Business, including Segra and RapidScale. Existing contracts still have terms; ask which entity and which terms govern before you renew.

What is the difference between Cox Dedicated Internet Access and Cox Business Fiber Internet?

Business Fiber Internet is symmetrical business broadband up to 2 Gbps. Dedicated Internet Access is a reserved circuit with symmetrical speeds up to 400 Gbps, fixed or burstable billing and BGP options. DIA costs more because the bandwidth is yours alone and the SLA is written into the order.

How much does Cox Business dedicated internet cost?

On a 36-month term, Cox DIA typically runs $375 to $450 a month at 100 Mbps and $800 to $1,000 at 1 Gbps. Cox does not publish DIA pricing and says it varies by location and speed. Off-net addresses and shorter terms push it higher.

Does Cox Business have an SLA?

Cox advertises "enterprise-grade SLAs" on DIA and "uptime SLAs" on Business Fiber Internet, but it does not publish the availability percentage, repair time or credit schedule. We request the SLA attachment for your order so you can compare it line by line with other carriers.

How long does a Cox dedicated internet install take?

About twelve weeks is typical. Cox notes that a site survey and custom build may be required, which can stretch the interval where fiber is not yet in the building. If you have a hard date, tell us first and we will quote carriers already lit there.

Does Cox Business have a data cap?

Business.com reports that Cox Business broadband plans include unlimited data, while Cox residential plans do have caps. Dedicated Internet Access is sold by committed bandwidth, not usage.

Can Cox and Spectrum still be diverse paths for each other?

They are now one company, so we no longer treat them as independent carriers. In most places their networks never overlapped, but where you planned to pair them, check the routes and the support model again. A second carrier outside the combined company is the cleaner design.
